Landfill Gas Plant
SmartHybrid Energy and its technological partner offer Landfill Gas Plant solutions for Municipality Waste Management. Landfill gas (LFG) is a natural by-product of the decomposition of organic material in landfills. Methane gas extraction from landfill is the best way to reduce it from the atmosphere. Methane gas is 25 times more harmful greenhouse gas in the atmosphere when compared to C02 emission. In other words, it is more effective than CO2 in trapping heat in the atmosphere for more than 100 years. Methane is flammable and can cause potential hazard when its concentration is between 5% to 17%. Methane can be dangerous if it blows out the side of a landfill under the ground surface, and can migrate into nearby homes which might create explosion. Other gases produced in a landfill with methane are ammonia, carbon dioxide, and sulphide which are also dangerous. Methane and carbon dioxide together make up to 90 % - 98% of landfill gas while the remaining is constituted by hydrogen, oxygen, sulphides, nitrogen and others.
SmartHybrid Energy and its technological partner act as a single point of contact from preliminary feasibility study, feasibility study and calculation, project management, procurement, construction, installation, operation and maintenance to training and commissioning. For example, there are several ways our technological partner can process the gas extracted from your landfill. The methane gas can be flared or used in gas engine (CHP) for electricity and heat production.
Our technological partner has experienced personnel in conducting preliminary feasibility study as well as feasibility and forecasting calculations concerning the amount of gas in your landfill. After the feasibility study and forecasting have been conducted, we will then advice our client about the design of the landfill gas plant and next steps to be taken.
Benefits of Landfill Gas Plants
- LFG can be captured, converted, and used as a renewable energy resource.
- Extracting LFG help reducing odours, methane and other hazards gasses emitting to the atmosphere.
- LFG energy projects will generate revenue for Municipality Landfill owners if it sells its energy to the grid. Also, the energy produced can be used on site.
- Landfill Gas Plant can create jobs in the community and beyond.
